Creating your Personal Tax Account with HMRC
You don't need to create a Personal Tax Account with HMRC. But we do recommend doing so as this is where you can find important information to help you complete your tax return. You can also use it to give untied permission to help you out, and to find out your unique taxpayer reference (UTR) if you have lost it.

How to create your Personal Tax Account
For most people the easiest way to create a Personal Tax Account is to use something called a Government Gateway ID (or Gateway login). This is effectively a username and password to access HMRC services. You'll need to provide some information - generally including a UK passport.
If you don't have a UK passport, you may not be able to create a Personal Tax Account. There used to be an option to use government-approved identity services, but HMRC have withdrawn this option. Get in touch and we may need to find other ways to help you.
