Connecting untied to HMRC as an agent for MTD
Making Tax Digital needs taxpayers and agents that support them to link their software to HMRC.
If you are an agent you need to link untied to HMRC, even if your client has already done so. That's because a secure token - shared between untied and HMRC - identifies whether it is the taxpayer or their agent requesting data or making submissions.
To link untied to HMRC, log in to the adviser portal and then click on "Connect to HMRC".
You only need to connect once - this will cover you interacting on behalf of all your clients (either clients that have directly appointed you for MTD, or through a traditional 64-8 route via an online services account linked to your agent services account).
Note that when you connect to HMRC (this is a one-off task, though the connection needs to be renewed after 18 months), whoever is carrying out the task will need to identify themselves personally to HMRC with their national insurance number and other ID checks.
