Toggling between self assessment and MTD

HMRC has two systems. One for self assessment, and the other for MTD. untied supports both.

Swapping between the systems

The way that untied works is that your untied account is linked at any one time to EITHER self assessment OR Making Tax Digital.

You can swap between the two.

To enable MTD

Navigate to the Making Tax Digital tab in untied Pro in the browser (or via Prepare and submit your return in the mobile app) and confirm.

To swap back to Self Assessment

Navigate to Legacy Tax Filings and then Disable MTD, which you will then confirm:

You don't need to file for the previous year before signing up to MTD

Actually we would often suggest signing up for MTD before filing for last year - as the act of filing can create data points that would prevent you completing the MTD journey.

untied supports more income in MTD than in self assessment

Once you're in MTD, untied will support the following which are not in the self assessment product:

  • Foreign income
  • Foreign property income
  • Self employment trading income above £90k
  • Property income above £90k

If any of these apply to you, we will need to set up advanced tagging - pleaes contact us to do this.
