Receipt scanning in "untied"

Most of the time, your transactions will come in through bank feeds. But every now and then you might have a paper receipt or a one‑off purchase you want to record. Receipt scanning in "untied" makes that quick and simple — just add the image and "untied" will pull out the key details for you.

Here’s how it works.

Adding a receipt

  1. Go to the transactions tab in "untied" pro in the browser
  2. Select + transaction to create a manual entry
  3. In the top right, either:
    • paste an image, or
    • upload a file from your device

There’s a 2MB file size limit, so if your photo is very high‑resolution, it may need reducing first.

Scanning the receipt

Once the image is added, tap scan.

"untied" will then read the receipt and pick up the important information, such as:

  • the retailer
  • the amount
  • the date
  • other details if they're clear enough

For example, "untied" might recognise a purchase from Off Can Cycles for ÂŁ69.99 and find the date printed at the top.

Check the extracted details, choose the right tag, and hit save.

Checking the receipt image

After saving, you can tap the attached receipt to see the image you uploaded. Even if the photo isn’t perfect, "untied" usually manages to pick up:

  • the amount
  • the date
  • the retailer

This keeps the manual transaction accurate and tied to the receipt for reference.

When receipt scanning is useful

You'll mostly rely on bank feeds, but receipt scanning helps when:

  • something was paid in cash
  • the transaction didn’t appear in a connected account
  • you have a one‑off paper receipt or invoice
  • you want the evidence stored with the transaction

It’s a handy way to keep everything together.

Adding attachments to other transactions

You can add attachments to adding transactions to support something in the feed - see this article.
