🎥Adding clients as an adviser
Accountants, bookkeepers and other advisers have several ways to set up clients to handle their bookkeeping and tax filings.
This article explains the key features shown in the walkthrough video and how to add and manage clients in the adviser portal, including those without email addresses.
Accessing the adviser portal
Log in at advisers.untied.io
This login is separate from any personal untied account you may have.
Inviting or adding clients
There are two main ways to connect clients to your adviser account:
Share your adviser code
When you sign in, you will see your personal adviser code at the top left of the screen in a format that looks like ABCDEFGH12. Clients can enter this code in their own untied settings to appoint you as their adviser.
Use the Add clients option (general set up)
Select Add clients at the top of the page.
This generates an invitation email. Clients can use it to:
- accept you as their adviser
- and, if needed, set up a new untied account
untied offers flexibility on whether emails are sent to clients and who pays for the subscription (you or the client).
Adding clients without sending emails
Some advisers work with clients who do not use email or do not need direct access to untied. In this setup:
- clients will not receive any emails
- you will manage all bookkeeping and filings on their behalf
- clients will not log in directly
We will need to configure your untied adviser account to work in this way.
To add a client in this mode:
- Select Add client
- Enter the client’s name (for example, Dale Newton)
- Tap Add client
untied creates a dummy email address in the format clientname@yourfirm for internal identification, but no messages are sent.
Once the client appears in your list, you can double‑click the row or select Manage to open their account.
Managing clients
Within each client’s workspace, you can:
- enter manual transactions
- import spreadsheets (via the option at the top right)
- prepare and submit filings on the client’s behalf
All filings made through an adviser account use your agent authorisation.
Setting up agent authorisation (ARN)
To link your profile to HMRC:
- Go to Settings to enter your Agent Reference Number (ARN)
- Once your ARN is saved, choose Connect to HMRC
- Authorise untied as your Making Tax Digital (MTD) software
This ensures filings are submitted under your agent credentials.
