Why don't my Nationwide transactions go back more than 15 months when I connect my account?
Each bank or financial institution determines the data that can be accessed through third party connections. In general this will be the same as what you see in your banking app.
For most institutions, this will be several years when you first connect, and up to 90 days on refreshing the connection.
Nationwide provides a lot less data than most institutions
While we like Nationwide's stance on many things, Nationwide stands out as only providing 15 months' worth of data in bank feeds (you'll find the same in your Nationwide app - even though you can get PDFs going back further, older transactions don't appear in the feed).
This is a lot less than many other institutions and a frustration for untied users: if you are doing a tax return you need data going back to the previous April. This means that those people coming to untied (or any similar product) more than 15 months after the start of a tax year won't have all the data they need for their return in their feed (in practice this means anyone connecting untied to Nationwide on or after 6 July following the end of a tax year).
untied have lobbied for banks and other institutions to provide at least two years' worth of data. We hope that Nationwide recognise that the data they're providing is not sufficient for a tax return and would love to work with them to see if more can be unlocked (if this is your role at Nationwide - drop us a line).
Workarounds
As much as this isn't ideal, we also need to work with what we can get. So if this applies to you, then we suggest the following options:
- import the transactions that are missing based on data in PDFs
- add manual totals over the missing transactions
This should just affect your first return - so long as you maintain the connection to untied, future transactions will come in on an ongoing basis. And of course once your transactions are in untied, they stay there.
Please also contact Nationwide too saying you're using untied for your taxes and want more data to be available - if they hear from their members that this matters, they'll be in a better position to listen and act.
