What other help is out there to help me pay my tax?

From time to time, we can get into a position where we need additional help, especially with tax debt. If you're struggling to pay, please don’t ignore it.

We always recommend speaking first to HMRC on 0300 200 3822
In this exceptional year, HMRC has said they are willing to consider setting up ‘time to pay’ arrangements to spread the payment of self-assessment tax bills until January 2022, and no one will be charged a late payment penalty if they get in touch to set up a payment plan by 1 April 2021.
You can apply to set up a payment plan online with HMRC to spread the cost of your tax bill, if:
  • you owe £30,000 or less
  • you don't have any other payment plans or debts with HMRC
  • your tax returns are up to date

If that doesn't help, or you need more advice, there are some excellent charities especially targeted for people on lower incomes. They include:

Tax Aid (www.taxaid.org.uk)

Email: info@taxaid.org.uk

Tax Help for Older People (www.taxvol.org.uk)
